Fish Friday!One of the most iconic colors of the season is green, more often associated with the holly and fir trees on display this time of year. But not to be forgotten is the festively colored Atlantic mahi mahi. Atlantic mahi mahi, also known as dolphin fish, are brightly colored fish with electric greenish blue along their backs, lower body a gold or sparkling silver color, and sides a mixture of dark and light spots. On December 10, 1929, the twin bridges at Wilmington opened. Prior to this the only way to cross the Cape Fear River at Wilmington was by ferry. The bridges spanned the Northeast and Northwest branches of the Cape Fear River, allowing travel between New Hanover and Brunswick Counties. North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort
On December 8, 1917, the 53-foot menhaden schooner “M. B. Davis” wrecked three miles east of Bogue Inlet during a frigid storm. The 1913 sailing vessel was originally built in Davis by Isaiah Davis and Ed Lawrence; it had a home port of Beaufort. All on board survived. The ship, however, was a complete loss.
