There’s a long tradition of craftsmanship in custom wooden boat building in North Carolina. And, Carteret County is no exception.
That’s why Christine Brin, School & Group Coordinator for the North Carolina Maritime Museum, looks forward to Annual Wooden Boat Show.
“The Annual Wooden Boat Show is one signature event that we really get to showcase the art and skill of traditional boat building to the small children’ says Brin. She goes on to explain, “we want them to learn a little about the rich boatbuilding heritage of North Carolina coast through wooden boat building so we let them build a toy sailboat out of wood to use in our custom-built pool.”
The 43rd Annual Wooden Boat Show takes place Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Whether you’re not a wooden boat enthusiast or landlubber the Annual Wooden Boat Show offers something for everyone. “We have activities for children and opportunities for families to do things together,” states Christine Brin of the North Carolina Maritime Museum.
Youngsters can take part in Maritime games and crafts in the Wooden Boat Kids area.
Families can team up to test their skills in sailing radio-controlled model boats. And, kids can enjoy traditional skills demonstrations & displays, educational activities, historic vessels, boat models, sailboat races.
On Thursday, May 4, and Friday, May 5, free boat rides will be offered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. outside the Watercraft Center (a $5 per person donation is suggested, which will go to the sailing program).
The 43rd Annual Wooden Boat Show has received top honors from the Southeast Tourism Society as a “Top 20 Event for the Southeast” for May 2017. This is the third year in a row the museum has received the prestigious honor.
